Yorkshire Water faced significant cost pressures at the beginning of 2020, triggering the need for a transformation of its procurement function. YW had to deliver £25 million in savings by March 2022, but its procurement function was reactive, administrative, and decentralised, rather than focused on value delivery. We introduced new processes and technologies and delivered training, which have improved speeds and savings delivery – most significantly, we have repositioned Procurement to be involved in wider strategic business decisions. As a result, we exceeded savings targets nine months early, and achieved savings of £53.3 million by the end of March 2022.
