Commercial transformation from tactical function to strategic partner

Yorkshire Water faced significant cost pressures at the beginning of 2020, triggering the need for a transformation of its procurement function. YW had to deliver £25 million in savings by March 2022, but its procurement function was reactive, administrative, and decentralised, rather than focused on value delivery. A partnership with Efficio introduced new processes and technologies and delivered training to improve speed and savings delivery. Most significantly, Procurement has been repositioned as a strategic business partner throughout YW, having exceeded savings targets nine months early, and achieved savings of £53.3 million by the end of March 2022.
