“The world is in the midst of its first global energy crisis – a shock of unprecedented breadth and complexity” (1) – International Energy Authority (IEA)
As increased demand during the post-Covid reopening of economies coincided with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Energy Bill Support teams in BEIS delivered nine different schemes to help the UK’s struggling and vulnerable households and squeezed businesses. The schemes were delivered in unrealistic timescales, awarding over 20 contracts to spend £43bn in 2022/23 and ~£5bn in 2023/24, ensuring 67 million people living in the UK received vital support at a time when it was most needed.
