Laing O'Rourke

Manchester Airport - Supply Chain and Community Legacy

During the £600m transformation of Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2, Laing O’Rourke (LOR) embedded socio-economic sustainability into its Procurement and delivery approach. This approach was underpinned by supply chain collaboration and innovative “Legacy Agreements”. Supported by our vendors, we have driven innovation and contributed to developing a culture of sustainability whilst delivering a £450m spend with local suppliers, 1000 jobs and 150 apprenticeships. Furthermore, an education centre was constructed as part of the permanent legacy and the approach honed has become the foundation for the company’s future method to embedding procurement-led sustainability initiatives into major construction projects across the UK.
