Government eMarketplace (GeM)

Empowering Every Supplier: Inclusive Public Procurement through the Government eMarketplace (GeM)

In less than five years since its launch in 2016, GeM has completely reimagined and disrupted the procurement ecosystem to make it truly, diverse and inclusive, through a strategic focus on previously marginalized/underserved seller segments, particularly those adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Coordinated implementation of software functionalities with offline capacity building and outreach attempts have proven successful- GeM has currently 650,000+ medium, small and micro enterprises (6.8X increase), 8000+ startups (1.6X increase) and 100,000+ women entrepreneurs (7X increase). Of all procurement on GeM in financial year 2019-20, 61% was contributed by startups, women and medium, micro and small enterprises.
