Within Network Rail, delays to procurement of technological innovations can hinder the pace of improvements in safety, wellbeing and customer experience. To address this, a cross functional team was established to digitise the entire tender process. The solution - launched in August 2022 - comprises a robotic process automation bot (‘Mali’) that, on customer request, creates and runs a tender within our BravoNR sourcing platform, awards the contract and raises the purchase order on our Oracle ERP platform.

Mali’s deployment has delivered benefits including: •a reduction from 9-month procurement timescale to just 15 days •a 78% saving on Maintenance & Calibration Opex
