Downer Branded Clothing_Recycling Programme

Manaaki Taiao means care and respect for our environment and is one of Downer’s core values. To embed this into daily business, Downer’s Procurement team have formed a partnership with Upparel, who aim to reduce, re-use and recycle textile waste, therefore reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from waste decomposition.

The new partnership programme is achieving significant waste and emissions reductions by collecting end-of-life Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and corporate clothing and re-using or recycling it. Upparel then transforms the recycled textiles into new, useful products that can be re-used in the community, and also by Downer, creating a circular economy.
