Defra is responsible for environment, rural economy, food and farming sectors and protection from natural threats and oversees c£3-4bn of commercial activity. In 2017, Defra merged multiple disparate commercial functions and embarked upon a journey to become more agile and delivery focussed, putting ‘commercial expertise at the heart of sustainable business delivery’. As a result, DgC has significantly increased the scope of its influence and created a single ‘best in class’ commercial organisation with an increased scope of influence across Defra, putting commercial as a key part of addressing critical priorities, including EU Exit, Flood Defence, Covid-19 and Green Recovery.
