Defra's Contract Management Improvement Programme - Proactive Management of Supply Chain Risk

Defra spends £2-4 Billion each year and faces increasing risk across its supply chains in the wake of the Carillion collapse, EU Exit, Covid-19 and increasing complexity of commercial arrangements. To manage these risks, Defra implemented the Contract Management Improvement Programme which has taken steps to proactively manage supply chain risk as well as strengthen contract management capabilities across the group. This programme has delivered a Centre of Excellence providing best practice tools and knowledge, accreditation of c750 people to contract management professional standards, assurance reviews of high risk contracts and an SSRM programme to maximise opportunities with its suppliers.
